Reeperbahn Festival

From a small club festival to the hotspot of the music world: Since its debut in 2006, the Reeperbahn Festival has become an important meeting point for the international music and digital industrie. From 16 to 19 September 2020 the industry is getting together for the 11th time on the Reeperbahn – Hamburg’s legendary street in the district of St Pauli. About 500 concerts are scheduled to take place at over 70 locations across St Pauli – including stages the Beatles used to perform on, famous music clubs, infamous table dance venues, open-air stages, time-honoured theatres, and even churches – the Reeperbahn Festival promises to be a real musical lucky bag. About 35,000 music fans are expected to attend the festival.

Many artists started their career right here in one of the small and intimate clubs on the Reeperbahn: Ed Sheeran, Ben Howard, Cro, Bon Iver and Kraftklub have performed as newcomers at the Reeperbahn Festival, Europe’s biggest club festival. Today they pack large-scale arenas across the globe.

Also in 2020 there will be a huge variety of music acts- from German Pop, electronic sounds and best Indie-Rock, to Blues, Rock and Funk. Internationally, transcending genres, adventurous – the Reeperbahn Festival convinces with its focus on newcomer bands. Since 2016 the ANCHOR - Reeperbahn Festival International Music Award is a new highlight of the programme. The ANCHOR can be seen as a seal of quality and a practical guide: the ANCHOR Award extents the fame of the participants and provides an overview of the best new music from around the world for fans and representatives of the music industry.

Furthermore, art and photography exhibitions as well as a film- and literature programme and exciting workshops attract visitors to the Reeperbahn in September.

At the end of September, more than 4,400 conference guests from the realms of music, games, mobile, IT design and marketing will get together in the St. Pauli district. Hamburg has established itself as a platform for the international music and digital industry, providing industry experts with a forum comparable with major events such as the South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. This year’s conference agenda comprises 230 programme items and includes talks and discussions with musicians, politicians, academics and journalists.

For another time, the renowned digital conference »NEXT will dock onto the Reeperbahn Festival and host its core programme from 17 to 18 September. The programme is focusing on insights into consumer behaviour, the latest trends in experience design and great cases from all around the world showing shifts in consumer behaviour.

More than 35,000 people will be bustling down the Reeperbahn during the four days of the festival– among them musicians seeking to inspire the crowds, label bosses scouting for new talents, young start-ups with their innovative ideas and countless eager festival fans.
