Elbphilharmonie Hamburg featured in TIME MAGAZINE’s “World’s Greatest Places 2018”

Hamburg, 8/23/18 – The Elbphilharmonie Hamburg has been selected as one of TIME Magazine's 2018 World's Greatest Places, its was announced today. The prestigious editorial ranking again puts Hamburg’s year-and-a-half old concert hall and iconic landmark building into the international spotlight.

U.S.-based TIME Magazine’s new list—culled from over 1,200 editor and expert nominations from around the world—recognizes 100 exceptional destinations (including spas, hotels, museums and restaurants) that are breaking new ground, impressing their industry peers, and offering guests an experience that’s unlike any other. Featured in the “To Visit” category alongside famous places such as Tivoli Garden in Kopenhagen and Golden Bridge in Ba Na Hill, Viertnam, the Elbphilharmonie’s inclusion is further firming the building’s reputation as a top landmark for Northern Germany, if not for Germany as a whole. The complete list is available at time.com/collection/worlds-greatest-places-2018/

Ever since its opening in January 2017, the new Herzog and de Meuron-designed concert hall and architectural masterpiece has been at the center of public attention. To date, more than 7 million people have enjoyed the panoramic view from the Elbphilharmonie’s Plaza public viewing platform, and about 1.5 million visitors have experienced concerts in the building’s two spectacular performance halls, ranging from classical composers, jazz and world music to avant-garde, electronic music and pop.

Hamburg – city of music and “best place to travel”

Hamburg plays an important role as a European music destination, with the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg being one of the recent highlights. The city’s diverse music-related attractions, range from great classical Hamburg composers, such as Brahms, to the Beatles, and from the Hamburg sound of the 1960s to today’s vibrant live music scene with highlights such as the MS Dockville Festival and the Reeperbahn Festival. Hamburg’s inclusion in TIME Magazine's list of the “World’s Greatest Places” is not the only top-class recognition the city has received. Last year, the New York Times featured Hamburg in its list of “Places to Go in 2017”, the U.S.-based Travel + Leisure magazine included Hamburg in its “50 Best Places to Travel”, and Lonely Planet ranked Hamburg fourth in its “Best to Travel” category.
