BLUE PORT illuminates the Port of Hamburg and the new UNESCO World Heritage site “Speicherstadt” in magical blue light

Since 2008, the installation “Blue Port Hamburg” by Artist Michael Batz evoke international awareness. For the Hamburg Cruise Days, the installation puts the Port of Hamburg and the City`s main sights like the new Elbphilharmonic Concert Hall, the St. Michaelis church (Michel), the Köhlbrand Bridge, the shipyard Blohm & Voss and the museum ship Cap San Diego in scene and shines a bright blue light on those points of interest every night until September 13th.

For the first time in 2015, the historic warehouse district “Speicherstadt” and the neighbouring Chilehaus, both just have been declared as UNESCO Word Heritage sites,  are also included in the project. More than 120 objects will be illuminated by artist Michael Batz starting in the harbor area between the Elbe bridges all the way to Övelgönne by 10.500 light sources – among them buildings, bridges, shipyards, tower, terminals, barges, cranes, docks, pontoons and ships. “Blue Port Hamburg” is the perfect canvas for the Hamburg Cruise Days taking place from September 11. to 13.. The event will use the Port of Hamburg as a stage for events, cruise parades and fireworks. More information: www.hamburgcruisedays.de/en .
