Elbphilharmonie Hamburg opens one year from now
Exactly one year before the opening of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg the opening act is definite: the NDR Symphony Orchestra in the hands of Thomas Hengelbrock will be playing on 11th and 12th January 2017 in the great hall. The construction as well as the planning of the concert business are now in their final stages. The new concert house, which is located at Hamburg’s harbor and was designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & De Meuron, is already the new landmark of the city and will be one of the best opera houses worldwide. Part of the tickets for the opening concerts held on 11th and 12th of January 2017 are available for the general public.
The opening concert will be identical on both days. Next to tickets for invited guest, there will be a limited stock on tickets for the general public from Hamburg, Germany and other countries. Advanced booking will start in June 2016.
Prof. Barbara Kisseler, Kultursenatorin of Hamburg: „The curiosity about the Elbphilharmonie is enormous. A house for everyone is raising right in the heart of the city – a house for children, who experience music for the first time in their lifes; a house for music enthusiasts, who will experience unforgettable nights there; a house for everyone, who just wants to enjoy the fantastic view from the plaza. We want people from home and abroad to have the chance to take part at the opening concerts – not only invited guests.”
These days director Christoph Lieben-Seutter and his team are compiling the program for 2017, which will bring the overwhelming sound of the big hall to life. “Our plans are as spectacular and colorful as the firework at the great Hamburg port birthday. We will announce the whole program in April, tickets will be available from June on.
The Elbphilharmonie will be handed over to the city of Hamburg this fall already and be opened to the public in November. That is when the plaza will open its doors: the public place between the historic and the new built part of the iconic building provides a fantastic view across the Hamburg harbor.
After completing the spectacular outside of the building, the interior fittings and the finalization of the so called “white skin” in the great hall are passing on to the final construction phase, Jaques Herzog of Herzog & de Meuron is excited about the progress of the construction side: “One year before the opening, one can see which tremendous impact the Elbphilharmonie will have on Hamburg. We are very happy.”
The North German city sets a new symbol for a rich cultural life in the heart of the Hamburg harbor. In combination with the “Hafen City Hamburg”, the largest inner city urban development project in Europe, and the adjacent UNESCO world cultural heritage site „Speicherstadt und Kontorhausviertel“, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg is already the most popular touristic hotspot of Hamburg. The building with its curved glass constructions based on a historic ware house shapes the silhouette of the city and combines traditional and modern design.
