ELBJAZZ Festival 2015: the port of Hamburg as one big stage for cool grooves

Hamburg, 7 May 2015 (HHT) When jazz meets the north German waterfront, this results in a unique crossover experience in the breathtaking setting of Hamburg’s port. At the 2015 ELBJAZZ Festival on 29 and 30 May 2015, more than 50 artists from around the world will be jazzing it up in ten exceptional venues with a distinctive maritime flair – ranging from cargo vessels to the Blohm + Voss shipyard. Dedicated barges will commute between the different venues, providing visitors with a one-of-a-kind port experience under the spell of jazz. On the occasion of the ELBJAZZ Festival, the Hamburg experts of Hamburg Tourismus GmbH are offering a special overnight package from €219 per person.

Since its launch in 2010, the international ELBJAZZ Festival has conquered new territories for music on the last weekend of May. With its extraordinary setting and its successful mix of established musicians and exciting newcomers, the ELBJAZZ Festival has in recent years become a music highlight in Hamburg and one of the most popular jazz festivals in Europe. Around 50 concerts are on this year’s programme – featuring international stars such as Dee Dee Bridgewater, Monty Alexander and Michael Wollny, as well as Ed Motta, Jon Hassel and the Orchestre National de Jazz - Olivier Benoit. In between concerts, visitors can take a leisurely trip by barge across the River Elbe to get e.g. to the main stage in the Blohm + Voss shipyard, or take a stroll between the factory workshops and open-air stages while enjoying the setting sun against the magnificent backdrop of Hamburg’s port.

The ELBJAZZ Festival makes it a point to feature jazz in the broadest sense. The line-up is to appeal not only to the close-knit community of jazz lovers, but also aims to attract young music fans. Thus the ELBJAZZ Festival covers the entire spectrum of international jazz music – with artists from across the globe and with all facets of innovation and tradition this music genre has to offer. Guests to this year’s festival can look forward to Dee Dee Bridgewater, the “First Lady of jazz”, as well as Monty Alexander, one of the most renowned pianists of our time, and his Harlem Kingston Express. Michael Wollny, who is a regular at the ELBJAZZ Festival, and Israeli harpsichordist Tamar Halperin will enchant their audiences with magical sounds.
