Disney's HERCULES celebrates acclaimed world premiere in Hamburg
Hamburg, 25 March 2024 (HHT) - Hamburg made history last night: For the first time ever, a Disney musical celebrated its world premiere in the Hanseatic city with Disney's HERCULES. Celebrity guests, business and cultural representatives, journalists and musical fans cheered in front of a sold-out audience at the Stage Theatre Neue Flora, which was transformed into the fantastic mythical world of the Greek gods. For the very first time, a Disney musical is celebrating its world premiere in Hamburg. Not without reason, as Hamburg is one of the three largest musical metropolises in the world after New York and London and is Germany's musical capital.
Inspired by the 1997 animated film of the same name by Walt Disney Studios, a brand new musical adventure awaits the audience. An immortal hero, staged in an unrivalled way: Disney's HERCULES is the story of a demigod who embarks on a quest to find his place in the world. Hercules, son of Zeus, is abducted as a baby and grows up among humans. One day he finds out that he was born on Mount Olympus and that his father is none other than the mighty Zeus. But in order to be allowed to return to the mountain of the gods, Hercules must prove that he is a real hero.
Spectacular stage design, rousing music and breathtaking costumes - every second of Disney magic provides first-class entertainment that delights young and old alike. Thanks to the perfect interplay of impressive video technology and sophisticated backdrops, the stage is transformed within seconds from a shining golden Olympus to the dark and mystical underworld. A special musical highlight are the five muses, who guide the audience through the action with their powerful voices. With many costume changes from scene to scene, the muses tell the story of Hercules' heroic journey. And Hercules? In the divine finale, he realises that a true hero is measured by the size of his heart.
The songs and lyrics are by eight-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken and David Zippel. For the stage version and based on the book by Tony Award® winner Robert Horn and Kwame Kwei-Armah, the two have written seven new songs.
