European XFEL: world’s largest X-ray laser to launch in Hamburg

Hamburg, 1 September 2017 (HMG) – From 1 September 2017, the European XFEL – the world’s biggest X-ray laser – will be in regular operation. The €1.22 billion research facility in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region involves eleven European countries.

Miniatur Wonderland Hamburg once again ranked as Germany’s number one tourist attraction

Hamburg, 24 August 2017 (HHT) – A tremendous honour for both Miniatur Wonderland and Hamburg / Germany: for the second consecutive year, international guests to Germany have voted Miniatur Wonderland, the world’s biggest model railway, the number one tourist attraction in Germany. The survey was conducted by the German National Tourist Board (GNTB). Europapark Rust, an adventure park, was ranked second, and Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria came third. As a new entrant to the top 100, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, which opened its gates only recently, shot in at 51st place.

The meeting of the icons: Elbphilharmonie Hamburg greeted by Queen Mary 2

Yesterday evening witnessed the first meeting of the cruise liner Queen Mary 2 and the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, as the ship was taking a tour of Hamburg’s port. In 2004, when the elegant ocean liner first arrived in Hamburg, it started an unprecedented cruise boom in Northern Germany. It has since been regarded as a maritime icon by the city’s locals and is most warmly welcomed whenever it calls at the port of Hamburg.

Elbphilharmonie Hamburg as a stage for world politics: political leaders meet at Hamburg’s new landmark as part of G20 summit

This year’s G20 summit of heads of state and government takes place in the north German port city of Hamburg on 7 and 8 July. In addition to venues at the Hamburg Messe exhibition grounds in the heart of the city, Hamburg’s new concert hall, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, which opened in January 2017, will play an important role. In the context of the summit, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel has invited the heads of state and government, as well as the representatives of the international organisations and guest countries to attend a concert in the Elbphilharmonie on the first night of the G20 summit.

The Norwegian Jade is making Hamburg its new homeport for the summer season

A musical genius goes maritime: last night, Iveta Apkalna, head organist of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, launched the cruise liner “Mein Schiff 6” on behalf of the spectacular new concert hall. During the ceremony, the fourth new addition to the Hamburg based TUI Cruises’ feel-good fleet was moored just beside the Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg’s new landmark.

ELBJAZZ and Theater der Welt: Two festivals inviting you to the port of Hamburg

HAMBURG PORT ANNIVERSARY festival and first-time arrival of the MSC Preziosa

Hamburg is the world's number one destination for maritime entertainment and cruise events. Over the past few days, the north German port city once again confirmed its position when seven cruise liners transformed the River Elbe into one big stage for the cruise world – at last weekend’s HAMBURG PORT ANNIVERSARY festival. And only three days earlier, the cruise liner MSC Preziosa had called at the port of Hamburg for the very first time.
