Innovations, networks, and visions for the future: our latest projects

Hamburg is actively shaping the future and strengthening its international appeal through pioneering city marketing projects.

From Hamburg News, which provides an international audience with reporting on current economic developments in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region to the HY-5 Hydrogen Alliance, which aims to position Northern Germany as Europe's leading hydrogen region, to cultural campaigns that highlight the city's creative diversity: Hamburg is taking an active role in shaping the region's future.

The HY-5 Hydrogen Alliance

Today, the effects of climate change are becoming more and more obvious and the transition towards a sustainable economy represents a global challenge. Initiated by the North-German Chamber of Commerce and Hamburg Marketing GmbH,  the business development organisations of the federal states of Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Hamburg and Bremen joined forces and established the HY-5 Hydrogen Alliance, which aims to make Northern Germany the leading future region for green hydrogen in Europe.

Cultural campaign

The "Mischen is possible" campaign (a play on words on "Mission impossible") by the Hamburg Ministry of Culture and Media focusses on Hamburg's cultural diversity. Supported by Hamburg Marketing, the campaign with its expressive visuals and pointed slogans brings the city's wide range of cultural offerings to life and invites you to discover new perspectives and formats live.

UEFA EURO 2024

The UEFA EURO 2024 put Hamburg on the international football stage. As one of ten host cities, Hamburg made an impression with its unique supporting programme. Overall, four preliminary round matches and one quarter-final match took place at Hamburg's Volksparkstadion.

The group draw at the Elbphilharmonie concert hall and the container installation in the port attracted worldwide attention. With its "Hamburg. Great Things Start Here." communication campaign, the city presented itself as a cosmopolitan, sport-loving city – a success story with a lasting effect.

Future Hamburg Award

Whether in terms of business, the social sphere or climate: technological progress is transforming urban life worldwide, while also creating major challenges for cities. So how can cities ensure future liveability? Over a period of three years, the Future Hamburg Award honoured visionary startups addressing this question by developing sustainable solutions.

In 2023, the award was presented for the last time, but its impetus and innovations have an impact far beyond Hamburg and thus contribute to shaping the city as a centre of innovation.
