Hamburg presents highlights of 2017 cruise season at ITB trade fair in Berlin

In addition to the opening of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg almost two months ago, cruise lining certainly plays a central role for Hamburg’s 2017 tourism year. In September, highlights will include the Hamburg Cruise Days, Europe’s biggest public cruise festival, and Seatrade Europe, which will be held shortly prior to the festival. Hamburg hugely popular among German and international guests

A major boost for Hamburg: in 2016, Hamburg recorded a total of 6.6 million visitors and 13.3 million overnight stays. Compared with the previous year, this result corresponds to an increase of 5.5 percent or 692,000 overnight stays, respectively. For the 15th consecutive time, Hamburg has exceeded its previous year’s results. The average occupancy rate for the year 2016 amounted to 79.6 percent.

Culture at its finest: Deichtorhallen Hamburg to present “Elbphilharmonie Revisited”

Hamburg is packed with cultural highlights: the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg was officially opened on 11 and 12 January 2017 to great celebration and now forms the new heart of Hamburg, the music hub in Northern Germany. And from 10 February 2017, the Deichtorhallen Hamburg will be presenting their exhibition “Elbphilharmonie Revisited”, with renowned international artists engaging in their relationship with architecture in general and the Elbphilharmonie building in particular.

Opening ceremonies for the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg

Today, a ceremony and the inaugural concert marked the official opening of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. The concert hall is the new musical heart of the northern German metropolis. The spectacular venue uses its architecture and its programme to combine artistic excellence with the utmost in openness and accessibility. Designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron and perched between the city and the harbour, the Elbphilharmonie unites the former Kaispeicher warehouse with a new glass structure featuring wave-like peaks and valleys on top.

Europe gets together in Hamburg: meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council

Today and on Friday, over 50 foreign ministers and 1,300 representatives of 57 delegations of the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) member states are meeting at the Hamburg exhibition grounds for their Ministerial Council. The event is being hosted by Germany’s Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Due to its international character, Hamburg is the ideal location and will be in the international limelight for two days.

Sino-European summit with Vice Premier Liu Yandong and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier: Europe and China continue to be strong partners

Today, the “Hamburg Summit – China meets Europe”, the leading Sino-European economic conference, was concluded in Hamburg with a closing lunch and keynote speeches by Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The Hamburg Summit was hosted by the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. During the two-day conference, some 550 participants – among them 110 Chinese delegates – discussed topics such as economic change in China, collaborations between the EU and China in the area of investments, as well as Brexit’s effects on relations with Europe and Germany.
