As of now, Google-Maps user can explore in Hamburg the world´s biggest model railway in Street View. For the first time, miniature Street View cameras have been developed to be able to get unique insights into Hamburg´s Miniatur Wunderland model railway.

Exactly one year before the opening of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg the opening act is definite: the NDR Symphony Orchestra in the hands of Thomas Hengelbrock will be playing on 11th and 12th January 2017 in the great hall. The construction as well as the planning of the concert business are now in their final stages. The new concert house, which is located at Hamburg’s harbor and was designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & De Meuron, is already the new landmark of the city and will be one of the best opera houses worldwide.

The rings are the symbol of the Olympic Games – just like the Olympic flame. 13,000 Hamburg residents showed their enthusiasm for the 2024 Olympic Games today in the Stadtpark Hamburg by forming five huge interlinking rings in the Olympic colours, thereby creating a gigantic 300x300 metre picture that could even be detected by satellite. The event was honoured by Guiness World Records as the largest formation of human Olympic rings.

Hamburg strengthens its ties with Denmark. Today, Hamburg’s First Mayor Olaf Scholz has been appointing Jens-Peter Saul, president of the German-Danish Chamber of Commerce and CEO of Ramboll Group, as honorary HamburgAmbassador in the Danish capital of Copenhagen.

Big fireworks and thousands of visitors said farewell to the “Norwegian Escape” in Hamburg / Germany yesterday evening. The vessel is the world`s newest cruise ship and the largest ship started a cruise from Hamburg so far. The Escape left Hamburg for a maiden voyage taster to Southampton, before setting out for its first transatlantic crossing to Miami on  October 29 where it will be christened on November 9.

The Reeperbahn Festival celebrated its tenth anniversary from September 23 to 26 and confirmed its status as Europe´s largest club music festival and hotspot for the international music- and digital industry.  

Since 2008, the installation “Blue Port Hamburg” by Artist Michael Batz evokes international awareness. For the Hamburg Cruise Days, the installation puts the Port and the City`s main sights like the new Elbphilharmonic Concert Hall, the St. Michaelis church and the museum ship Cap San Diego in scene and shines a bright blue light on those points of interest every night until September 13th.

The UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee has approved Hamburg’s application for the “Speicherstadt and Chilehaus with Kontorhaus District” to be included in the UNESCO’s World Heritage list. The decision was made at today’s Committee meeting in Bonn, Germany.
