Elbphilharmonie Hamburg presents program for inaugural season

On 11 and 12 January 2017, the grand opening of the Elbphilharmonie adds a one-of-a-kind concert hall to Hamburg and unveils a new symbol for the Hanseatic city. Today Christoph Lieben-Seutter, General and Artistic Director of the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle, together with Hamburg’s First Mayor Olaf Scholz, announced the programme for the 2016/17 concert season of both venues.The programme of the very first season that will be played at the concert hall by the Elbe will be top-class, multifaceted and open for everyone.

G20 Summit 2017 to be held in Hamburg

The city of Hamburg is to host the G20 summit in July 2017. The German chancellor Angela Merkel and the First Mayor of Hamburg Olaf Scholz announced this during the traditional Matthaie-Mahl Friday in the Hamburger Town Hall. Merkel said: “I believe that it is well suited to Hamburg’s cosmopolitanism.”

Elbphilharmonie Hamburg opens one year from now

Exactly one year before the opening of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg the opening act is definite: the NDR Symphony Orchestra in the hands of Thomas Hengelbrock will be playing on 11^th and 12^th January 2017 in the great hall. The construction as well as the planning of the concert business are now in their final stages. The new concert house, which is located at Hamburg’s harbor and was designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & De Meuron, is already the new landmark of the city and will be one of the best opera houses worldwide.

Five rings for Hamburg 2024 – Hamburg sets the tone for the Olympic Games

The rings are the symbol of the Olympic Games – just like the Olympic flame. 13,000 Hamburg residents showed their enthusiasm for the 2024 Olympic Games today in the Stadtpark Hamburg by forming five huge interlinking rings in the Olympic colours, thereby creating a gigantic 300x300 metre picture that could even be detected by satellite. The event was honoured by Guiness World Records as the largest formation of human Olympic rings.
