Hamburg's connection to Hungary

Hamburg and Hungary are linked by a strong partnership - both culturally and economically. The Port of Hamburg is indispensable for Hungary's foreign trade. Numerous Hamburg companies - including Körber, Airbus, Tchibo, HHLA and Lufthansa Technik - are already operating successfully locally.

Hungary impresses with its central location in Central and Eastern Europe, well-trained skilled labour and modern infrastructure. It is an attractive location for production, trade, services and research and development. The strong industry - especially automotive and mechanical engineering - offers a wide range of opportunities. Major Asian investors such as BYD and Samsung are also focussing on Hungary.

For Hamburg-based companies, there is potential in logistics, digitalisation, hydrogen, start-up cooperation and science. Joint projects strengthen competitiveness, innovation - and the connection between two dynamic regions.

HamburgAmbassador Nils Blunck

Nils Blunck, a native of Hamburg, has been working internationally in companies and institutions for over 30 years. Since 2015, he has been committed to expanding relations between Hamburg and Hungary as a HamburgAmbassador. As Managing Director of InterGest Hungaria and Blucron Beratungen in Budapest, he supports German companies with investments - from company formation and accounting to subsidy advice. With InterGest Worldwide in Hamburg, he also supports the development of 52 international partner companies .

From 1993, he worked for the European Commission in the area of planning, implementation and controlling of EU funding programmes for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, with a focus on Hungary. from 1997 to 1999, he advised the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on preparations for EU accession.

As a HamburgAmbassador, he is committed to promoting Hamburg in Hungary as an innovative business location, logistics hub, research metropolis and attractive travel destination.

He actively promotes the development of networks between companies, universities and government agencies. His projects include the establishment of an AI research network, delegation trips on topics such as start-ups and hydrogen, support for the port representative office in Budapest and location promotion for Hamburg and Hungarian companies.

He is also involved on a voluntary basis, for example as a board member of the German-Hungarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce and in other economic and educational organisations.
