Hamburg and Peru have close economic, cultural and historical ties. Peru has had a consular presence in Hamburg since 1843. This makes the consulate one of the twenty oldest consular representations in Hamburg. Peru's economic and trade office for Germany is also based in the Hanseatic city.
Currently, copper ore, coffee, cocoa and tropical fruit in particular are imported from Peru to Hamburg. The Port of Hamburg is of crucial importance here as an import port.
Peru is an open economy with great potential in mining and agriculture. Peru could also become more important in the region in the future when it comes to renewable energies. More and more international companies are taking an interest in Peru and launching projects. The country has great wind and solar potential and an attractive investment climate.
Germany's and especially Hamburg's high technology and pioneering production systems could form a very important symbiosis with Peru's potential. The co-operation offers opportunities for innovation, sustainability and economic growth on both sides.
