Hamburg's connection to England

Hamburg has maintained trade links with London and England since the 15th century, which have developed over the centuries.

Today there are strong links between the two cities in the financial sector, particularly in shipping, as well as offshore wind energy, cruises and trade finance, although London retains the dominant role in all these sectors. Other attractive opportunities for a more intensive partnership include areas of environmental and urban development, transport systems and sports culture (e.g. football).

Culturally, the legendary performance of the Beatles in Hamburg was particularly influential in forging links with England. With the Elbphilharmonie concert hall, Hamburg has also created a symbol of international music that makes the city attractive to British artists and music lovers alike. After Brexit, Hamburg also offers a destination for many other talented Britons looking for a future within the EU.

London as a city is not comparable to Hamburg in terms of size and variety of topics, but Hamburg has always had a great affinity with Great Britain. You could even call the Hanseatic city the "most British capital in Germany". There are certainly opportunities to benefit from each other.

Hamburg as a port of call for cruise tourism, the Elphi in the context of music culture, deepening relationships in the context of insurance, building relationships in financial investment with British partners, energy supply for metropolises, modern food technology as well as urban planning and housing are all starting points for cooperation.
