Great cinema in Hamburg: experience Miniatur Wunderland live
Hamburg, 07.03.2024 (HHT) - The film ‘WUNDERLAND - From Childhood Dream to Global Success’ about Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg's Speicherstadt warehouse district can be seen in cinemas for the first time today. The documentary about one of Germany's most popular attractions tells the life story of twin brothers Frederik and Gerrit Braun, who realised their lifelong dream with Miniatur Wunderland in 2000. Hamburg Tourismus offers an attractive package deal to make the film a reality and experience the Wunderland live.
The time has come: after two years of work and with unprecedented film footage, the story of the world's largest model railway is coming to German cinemas as an emotional documentary.
Previously unpublished archive footage takes a look back at the complicated childhood of Wunderland founders Frederik and Gerrit Braun. It shows how the joy of playing gave rise to the craziest ideas and how their early fascination with model making ultimately laid the foundations for Wunderland.
In the film, Gerrit and Frederik Braun slip into the wonderland themselves as animated miniature figures, discover the craziest details as children, have exciting encounters with some of the more than 289,000 figures, learn to understand the complex world of technology behind them and learn to control them.
In addition to emotional interviews, the adventure journey takes them all the way to South America to the Martinez modelling family. The Rio de Janeiro and Patagonia sections were created together over several years in their workshops near Buenos Aires. Started as an intercontinental building project by a large number of modellers from Hamburg and Argentina, true friendships across continents developed in a very short time. Hamburg's biggest tourist attraction
Miniatur Wunderland is not only the largest model railway layout in the world, but also the biggest tourist attraction in Hamburg with well over 20 million visitors. Together with Neuschwanstein Castle and Europapark Rust, the attraction in the Speicherstadt district has been one of the top 3 German visitor magnets for years and is particularly popular with foreign visitors. In addition to Hamburg, 11 sections now represent cities and regions from all over the world: 1,600 square metres of model area, 16,000 metres of track, 1,160 trains and 10,600 carriages, 4,670 buildings and 52 aircraft transport visitors to a veritable wonderland. Antarctica and Patagonia opened as the last construction phase, with Monaco with a Formula 1 race, neighbouring Provence and Central America/Caribbean coming up next. After that, the Braun brothers will move on to Asia ...
