Hamburg's Hanseviertel will be delicious & colourful: food market ‘Le big TamTam’ opens its doors

Hamburg, 11 July 2024 (HHT) - The time has finally come: tomorrow, Friday 12 July, the unique food market ‘Le big TamTam’ will open in the large rotunda of Hamburg's Hanseviertel, creating a new hotspot for Hamburg's city centre. The catering area for up to 500 guests offers the best food from five top restaurateurs from Hamburg. The offer ranges from ramen and Mexican food to chicken specialities, Neapolitan pizza and innovative fish sandwiches. Exciting drinks are also on offer. ‘Le big TamTam’ is also a partner of the OPEN MOUTH Hamburg Food Festival 2024, which will take place in the Hanseatic city for the second time from 12-16 September.

New hotspot for the city centre

The approximately 2,000 square metre former Mövenpick space in the Hanseviertel in Hamburg's Passagenviertel was first gutted and then extensively renovated in 2022. As a result, everything is new, from the technology to the unique interior design. The result is a catering space for up to 500 guests. From Friday 12 July, it is not only the architecture of the bar surrounded by plants in the centre of the rotunda that will set standards, but above all the extraordinary concept with a combination of culinary delights and events: ‘Le big TamTam is not only a gain for the Hanseviertel, but for the whole of Hamburg - a new trendy hotspot with which we will fill the city with life,’ says Lars Sammann, centre manager of the Hanseviertel. ‘Many people remember great culinary times in the Hanseviertel. Now, with Le big TamTam, there is once again a reason to enjoy life here on a regular basis.’

United in one space: a unique combination of Hamburg's individual and trendy restaurateurs

These five top Hamburg restaurateurs offer a wide range of culinary delights at ‘Le big Tam Tam’:

  • Authentic soul food from Japan: this is what Vena Steinkönig and Valentin Broer stand for with ‘MOMO Ramen’. In addition to well-known classics such as shoyu ramen, there are also vegan alternatives and local Japanese specialities such as Sapporo ramen. The range is rounded off with various gyoza and a delicious selection of toppings. ‘MOMO Ramen’ is the only ramen restaurant in Germany to be mentioned in the Michelin Guide.
  • ÜberQuell’ is a Hamburg institution and is known for its Neapolitan pizza and its own micro-brewery in St. Pauli. In the Hanseviertel, Axel Ohm and Patrick Rüther serve seasonal dishes with ingredients from local suppliers. Vegetables and herbs come in season from their own GreenPauli garden.
  • Miguel Zaldívar is the founder of the first taquería in Germany. Under the name ‘Miguelez’, he serves a mix of Mexican street food and traditional cuisine with a modern twist at ‘Le big TamTam’. The dishes are fresh and delicious - from handmade tacos and guacamole to enchiladas and breakfast classics such as chilaquiles and huevos rancheros. Miguel Zaldívar attaches great importance to a balanced mix of vegan and non-vegan dishes and a sustainable way of working.
  • With ‘YEAHBOY’, Niels Berschneider has created a holistic concept with chicken especially for ‘Le big TamTam’. It's all about American comfort food with a focus on fried chicken and vegan alternatives. In addition to the classic Chicken & Waffles - deep-fried chicken on a thick, fluffy waffle - there will also be sandwiches, fresh salads or pure chicken in a bucket, plus homemade sauces, French fries, grilled vegetables or mac'n'cheese.
  • Burhan Schawich and Samet Kaplan from ‘Underdocks’ are revolutionising Hamburg's fish classics and presenting gourmet food in the fish & seafood segment. The two existing locations are real hotspots. In ‘Le big TamTam’, they also offer a culinary experience that combines tradition and innovation - exceptional fish rolls, of course, but also lobster rolls, crunchy fried fish & chips or dirty loaded fries.
  • All the restaurateurs jointly run the ‘FÜNFVIERTEL’ bakery, which offers an exciting selection of handmade bread and pastries made on site every day: from rustic loaves of bread to fine patisserie and seasonal specialities. The open-plan design of the bakery allows you to watch the bakers at work.

The absolute eye-catcher in the large, 14 metre high rotunda is the ‘FÜNFVIERTEL Bar’, which is also run jointly by all the restaurateurs. In addition to classic drinks, freshly tapped ÜberQuell beer and high-quality wines, ingenious creations are conjured up here: each food stand has its own signature drink, perfectly coordinated with the respective cuisine. A high seat in the middle of the bar is the highlight and also Hamburg's smallest bar: at four metres high, there is only room for two guests.

Bright colours and a simple payment system

Everything in ‘Le big TamTam’ is unusual and nothing is off the peg - not even the interior. The cosy seating areas and the counter chairs for the high tables are in bright colours. A standardised checkout system was developed to ensure a relaxed visit: Using a QR code, guests can order directly at their table via a digital ordering platform for all catering offers and at the bar. The service staff bring the drinks and the guests pick up the food from the respective counter.
