The UEFA Trophy tours Hamburg
In exactly five weeks, the UEFA EURO 2024 will kick off with the match between Germany and Scotland. Before the kick-off sounds and the fan zone with public viewing opens its doors at Heiligengeistfeld, the UEFA Trophy will be touring Hamburg with several stops on May 10 and 11. Hamburg residents and their guests will be able to admire the winning trophy exclusively at the Hafengeburtstag Hamburg on Saturday.
The official "Trophy Tour" kicked off on Friday morning with a boat trip on the Elbe with a view of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. Here the UEFA Trophy met a genuine captain. This was followed by a stop at the Bunker St. Pauli, at the foot of which the Fan Zone for the European Championship will be held with a large public viewing from June 14 to July 14.
At the Volksparkstadion, the venue for the five Hamburg tournament matches, one of the 1996 European champions, Thomas Helmer, was waiting for the trophy:
"The European Championship title was my greatest success with the national team. The fact that we beat England at home in the semi-final and won the final at Wembley is still unforgettable for me today."
In addition to Thomas Helmer, HSV board members Jonas Boldt and Dr. Eric Huwer also made time for the trophy. Christin Okun, President of the Hamburg Football Association, was on site as a representative of amateur soccer.
HSV board member Jonas Boldt: "The anticipation of the games and the EURO atmosphere in Hamburg is growing. Our Volksparkstadion is getting more and more into EURO shape every day and will be a guarantee for excitement, fun, atmosphere and great matches."
HSV board member Dr. Eric Huwer: "The construction progress in and around the stadium is visible every day and whets the appetite for the EURO. We are looking forward to an exciting tournament of hopefully sporting superlatives."
Christian Okun, President of the Hamburg Football Association: "UEFA EURO 2024 is both a gift and a great challenge for Hamburg, the sport and, of course, soccer in our city. I am sure that the people of Hamburg will be great hosts and that together we will have a wonderful atmosphere in the city. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers who make a tournament like this possible. This commitment is fantastic, we need this commitment - even beyond UEFA EURO 2024."
Hamburg's First Mayor Peter Tschentscher then makes the acquaintance of the Trophy in front of City Hall.
Dr. Peter Tschentscher, First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg: "UEFA EURO 2024 is a major event for soccer fans in Germany. Five matches of the European Championship will be played in Hamburg's Volksparkstadion. We are looking forward to exciting games with great soccer stars and fair matches under the motto 'United by Football'".
The Trophy will then move on to the neighboring Chamber of Commerce and the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper before Hamburg's young footballers can marvel at the trophy up close: At the tournament organized by Jugend und Sport e.V. in Farmsen, a project that is one of the winners of the Hamburg Ideas Competition for UEFA EURO 2024, the trophy will increase the anticipation of the tournament in June among the young footballers.
UEFA Trophy on Saturday at the Hamburg Port Birthday
On Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., all Hamburg residents and their guests can see the UEFA Trophy up close and exclusively at the Hafengeburtstag Hamburg.
